Leg press ROM

The leg press is one of those movements where the amount of weight you can handle varies wildly with the range of motion used. I think more so with this movement than any other. I'm a short guy and have a hard time getting deep into a leg press. My quads and core seem to meet to limit the range of motion. I can allow my hips to come off the pad just slightly and add quite a bit of ROM. When I'm using my max ROM and with a quad focus lower foot placement, a set of 225 X 15-20 will bring me close to failure. On the other hand, if I don't let my hips come off the pad and use a neutral foot placement I can rep 765 for 12 nice and controlled.

So which one is more effective? Should I do both ways? Both in same session? Change week to week?
